TREKKING

Among the many excursion possiblities offered in the forest, one of the most highly recommended is that from Ceraxia to Mount Arbu, which takes place on one of the most beautiful, certainly the most characteristic, mountains of the Sarrabus.
The difficulty of this trek is found in the steepness of the land.

Features: naturalistic and archaeological
Vertical descent: about 500m
Time: 5 hours
Access by road: Leaving Costa Rey we head towards Cagliari along the east-coast road. Then turning left near the Arcu Neridu we continue through the Maidopis forest.I

A description of the journey: Having reached Maidopis, continue with a four-by-four along a stretch of excavated land immersed in the typical Mediterranean vegetation of ilexes, cork oaks, strawberry trees, heather and myrtle bushes. Here, in spring, the breezes waft around the myriad smells of a rich undergrowth, represented by numerous indigenous species like the Corsican juniper and by classic plants of the Mediterranean bush. These with their various shades of green form the “Seven Brothers Forest”, a small chain of mountains with an average height of around 800m, the highest peak being Punta Ceraxia (1016m)Trekking
In such an arid setting as Sardinian mountains, the presence of water is one of the most fascinating elements of the Seven Brothers Forest.
Having reached the Baccu Malu area, on the Ceraxia peak, we continue on foot down the “riu” (river) Ceraxia to the Buddui arch passing from 950m to 580m. After several more kilometres we turn left, climbing again from 529m to 803m above sea level towards Mount Arbu, where we will visit a proto-nuraghe and a typical area of red granite fashioned by the erosive action of the wind.
